Trips, Visits and Inspirational Experiences

At John Wilkinson Primary School, we believe that some of the most powerful learning happens beyond the classroom. Our rich programme of educational visits, visitors and experiences is designed to inspire children, broaden horizons and bring learning to life. Through these opportunities, we nurture a love of learning, develop confidence and resilience, and help every child discover their unique potential.

Rooted in our core values of Passion, Aspiration, Curiosity and Equity, and underpinned by our commitment to ensuring every child feels a strong sense of belonging, our enrichment programme enables children to connect their learning to the wider world and develop the knowledge, skills and experiences needed to thrive.

Each term, children take part in a range of carefully planned educational visits and experiences that enhance and enrich the curriculum. These include:

  • Local Experiences: Exploring our local community, celebrating its history and diversity, and developing a strong sense of place and belonging.
  • Beyond Our Community: Visiting museums, galleries, theatres, cities, places of worship and areas of cultural significance to build cultural capital and expand children's understanding of the world around them.

Every visit is purposeful and linked to our curriculum, helping children deepen their understanding, ask meaningful questions and make real-world connections. Whether exploring nature, experiencing live performances, taking part in sporting events or engaging in hands-on workshops, children are encouraged to demonstrate curiosity, challenge themselves and develop new interests.

As part of our commitment to providing an exciting and ambitious curriculum, we regularly welcome visitors into school. Authors, athletes, artists, musicians, business leaders and other professionals share their expertise and experiences, helping children see the many possibilities available to them in the future and raising aspirations for all.

Our partnership within the 3-18 Education Trust provides additional opportunities for children to engage in collaborative projects, sporting competitions, performances and enrichment experiences with other schools across the trust. These opportunities help children build relationships, develop confidence and strengthen their sense of belonging to a wider educational community.

Residential visits provide further opportunities for personal growth and independence. Through outdoor learning, teamwork challenges and new experiences, children develop resilience, confidence and self-belief, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Through our extensive programme of educational visits and enrichment opportunities, we aim to ensure that every child at John Wilkinson Primary School develops the knowledge, confidence and ambition to pursue their dreams, make positive contributions to society and thrive in an ever-changing world.

Together, we inspire children to be passionate learners, aspire to great things, remain curious about the world around them and champion equity for themselves and others.
