Reception - Jitties Class

Welcome to Jitties Class!
Our Class Story
Finding our way.
Named after the Jitties, Broseley’s maze of narrow lanes winding through Broseley Wood between the old miners’ cottages. As children take their first steps into school, they learn to find their way and explore.
Welcome to our class!
Welcome to Jitties Class! We are excited to share all of the wonderful learning, experiences and achievements that take place throughout the year.
Jitties Class is taught by Mrs Otto on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and by Mr Oldershaw on Thursdays and Fridays. We are also very fortunate to have the support of Mrs Rushton, who helps us on our learning journey and contributes to making our classroom a positive environment for all.
Meet Mrs Otto
My name is Mrs. Otto and I am teach on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday - excited to spend lots of time learning, exploring and having fun together. I love being creative and getting messy, whether that's painting colourful pictures, making crafts or sewing. One of my favourite hobbies is sewing my own clothes and creating new things from fabric. My favourite colour is green because it reminds me of nature, forests and all the wonderful things we can find outdoors.
I am also a big nature lover, and you'll often find me outside on muddy adventures with my dog, Thimble. We love going on long walks and exploring together. My favourite animal is a hedgehog – I think they are adorable with their tiny noses and prickly spikes!
Meet Mr Oldershaw
My name is Mr Oldershaw, and I teach Jitties Class on Thursdays and Fridays. I am passionate about creating engaging learning experiences that help children grow, embrace new challenges and take pride in their achievements. Outside of school, I am a huge sports enthusiast, particularly when it comes to football. I enjoy watching and playing sport whenever I can, and I believe it is a fantastic way for children to develop teamwork and resilience. I also enjoy going to the gym and exploring the beautiful Shropshire Hills, discovering new walking routes and taking in the scenery.
My favourite subjects are PE and English. I love seeing children work together, build positive relationships and achieve things they are proud of. It is always rewarding to watch pupils make progress, discover new strengths and experience success across a wide range of activities. Like Mrs Otto, my favourite colour is green, and my favourite animal is a dog. I have a cocker spaniel called Toby, and I enjoy sharing stories about the mischief he gets up to and the adventures we have together!
Our Week at a Glance
-
PE: Mondays and Fridays- Please send your child to school wearing their P.E. kit and ensure that all clothing, including hoodies, is clearly labelled.
-
Forest school: Wednesdays- We aim to go out in all weather conditions, so please ensure your child has the following:
-
Wellies
-
Waterproof jacket
-
Gloves and a hat during the winter months
-
An all-in-one waterproof suit if you would like to provide one (although this is not essential)
-
Reading books changed: Every Friday
-
Spellings/Phonics: We follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised phonics programme. Children begin by learning Phase 2 sounds, developing their knowledge of letters and sounds and learning how to blend them together to read words. Daily phonics lessons help children build the strong foundations needed for reading and writing success.
-
Homework: Homework in Reception is daily reading, with a minimum of four reads per week. Please record these reads in the reading diary provided.
Every Friday, we will send your child home with a new phonics reading book for you to listen to them read. To begin with, these will be wordless books with prompts to support discussion and storytelling. As the children develop their phonics knowledge, they will bring home books matched to the phase they are learning. We will also send home a reading for pleasure picture book for you to enjoy sharing with your child.
We will also send home additional creative homework projects for you to complete together. These enjoyable activities are linked to topics the children are learning about in class and provide an opportunity to extend learning beyond the classroom. They will be sent home in a little red homework book and will not be issued weekly, but rather as an extension of classroom learning.
