Vision

Our vision is simple:

Forging Futures - Without Limits

At John Wilkinson Primary & Nursery School, we believe every child deserves to thrive, belong and succeed.

We sit in the Ironbridge Gorge — a World Heritage Site and the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution — and we carry the name of John ‘Iron-Mad’ Wilkinson (1728–1808), the Broseley ironmaster whose curiosity and daring helped build the world’s first iron boat and raise the world’s first iron bridge. His inventive, hands-on, rooted spirit runs through our school.

Every one of our classes is named after a real place on our doorstep, so that our children’s learning is tied to the extraordinary history they can see and walk to — a journey through Broseley’s story, from riverside Bowers Yard in Nursery to Wilkinson’s own home, The Lawns, in Year 6.

Our vision, "Forging Futures Without Limits," reflects our commitment to starting with each child exactly where they are and helping them achieve far beyond what they may have imagined possible. We nurture ambition, celebrate individuality and provide the support each child needs to flourish academically, socially and emotionally.

As a proud member of the 3-18 Education Trust, we know that education is a journey. Our children are part of a wider family of schools, creating a strong sense of belonging and continuity from early years through to adulthood. Together, we foster a community where everyone is valued, everyone is included and everyone is empowered to succeed.

Ethos

Every child belongs here. From their very first days in Nursery to their last term in Year 6, we want every child to feel known, safe and valued — proud of who they are and where they come from, and part of the John Wilkinson family.

Belonging here. Belonging means understanding your place in a community with a remarkable past — and your responsibility to one another and to the wider world. It is built in the everyday: the class you belong to, the emblem on your classroom door, and the shared story we tell together as we celebrate fifty years and look ahead to the next fifty.

An inclusive community with high expectations. We hold high expectations for every child, whatever their starting point, and we begin with each child exactly where they are. Through equity, we make sure everyone — regardless of starting point — gets what they need to succeed and to belong. Our classrooms are safe, calm and purposeful places where every child is known.

How we behave, together. Our shared expectations keep every child safe, ready to learn and kind to one another:

Be Ready — On time, prepared and ready to learn.
Be Respectful — Kind and courteous to everyone, and caring for our world.
Be Resilient — We keep going, embrace challenge and learn from our mistakes.

Values

Our values belong to every child, in every class. They are memorable and positive, and they carry a sense of effort, momentum and progress — together, we set the PACE.

The Wilkinson Way – Our Behaviour Curriculum

At John Wilkinson Primary School and Nursery, we are proud of The Wilkinson Way – our bespoke, whole-school behaviour curriculum that sets out clear expectations and consistent routines to help every child succeed.

Rooted in our belief that behaviour is taught, not assumed, The Wilkinson Way is built on three simple rules that every child knows and every adult models: Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Ready. Together they create the calm, respectful and inclusive environment in which our children do their best work. Through explicit teaching, modelling and reinforcement of positive behaviours, we help every child develop self-regulation, empathy and a strong sense of community.

Our approach ensures that all staff use consistent language and shared routines, creating a safe and predictable school where children feel known, valued and understood. When behaviour does not meet expectations, we respond with clarity, care and a focus on restoration – helping children to reflect, take responsibility and make positive choices.

The Wilkinson Way is more than a set of rules; it is a culture. It underpins everything we do and gives life to our PACE values and our vision of forging futures without limits – nurturing respectful, resilient and responsible learners who are ready for the wider world.
