VE Day 80th Anniversary Commemoration
On Thursday 8th May 2025, we joined the local community in a VE Day 80th Anniversary Commemoration Service in the Broseley Memorial Gardens. Thank you to all the children and parents who joined us.
When children are healthy, happy and safe, curiosity is ignited and learning is optimised. In this section, you will find out what children in school and nursery have been learning this week.

Year 1 have been working hard learning about Multiplication and Division in maths. We were learning how to divide a quantity by using the grouping strategy. We worked together with our partners to divide smarties by grouping them. It was great fun!
In Year 1 we are learning about the pop artist James Rizzi! We are learning about how he created funky and imaginative cartoon-style street views. We have created our own double-page artist study using a variety of mixed media to get a feel for his colourful style.
In year 3 this term we are focusing on beautiful botanicals. We looked at artist Georgia O'Keeffe, which allowed the children to think about drawing on a bigger scale and zooming in.
They created some amazing watercolour flowers!
Y4 have been investigating light and shadows. We used different materials to make shadow puppets and performed in our own shadow puppet theatre!
Last week the Year 6’s made us all very proud with their hard work, resilience and incredible behaviour.
They have all achieved a certificate for their Bikeability training and had the chance to make and try Hamantaschen in D.T/R.E; which is a traditional Jewish cookie.
The Reception class have started their new topic this week, 'Animal Safari'. We began by looking at small creatures and went on a mini-beast hunt. The children found quite a few different mini-beasts at forest school.
Year 3 had a lovely time on their outing to All Saints' Church, Broseley. We completed a walking trail to tell the journey of the Easter story. Big thanks, as always, to everyone at Broseley Benefice for their time, effort and support!
The children then continued on to the Haycop as part of our whole school community litter-picking activity. They showed fantastic enthusiasm and took pride in their citizenship!
Year 3 had a lovely afternoon playing host on our Grandparents' day.
The children became mini-waiters - taking everyone's order and ensuring everybody had the correct drink.
We had a game of bingo, played beetle drive and dominoes. It was so lovely to see the children excited and just having fun talking with their families.
A huge thank you to our families for their support of this event.
The Reception class have been working on their IT skills this week. The children have been learning how to draw pictures on the interactive whiteboard and how to programme the Beebots to move in different directions around the classroom.
A round-up of our activities in Year 6 over the last week:
- In P.E. we have been learning about how to play handball.
- In Art we have been exploring light, shadow and line. We were practising our shading techniques to show different levels of light on a dark surface.
- After achieving 100 'Above and Beyond' class points, the class voted for a Disco Rave in the hall.
- In science we have been investigating what surfaces work best for a friction drive toy car.
The Reception class have been busy this week planting seeds in our garden. They planted lettuce seeds and peas.
We have also been working on 'time'. The children helped to create an obstacle course and timed each other completing it.
