In KS1 outdoor learning this week the children have been identifying different bird song. We listened to each song and tried to recognise which bird it was. We then hoped we might hear some of these birds outside too - we had to close our eyes and listen very carefully. The children then used what they could find in the forest to make bird song sounds and performed them to each other.
Children at Nursery have been busy creating some beautiful marbling pictures! They were fascinated by the patterns they could create, and used some amazing vocabulary to describe them, such as swirly, twirly and feathery. Well done children!
In outdoor learning Year 5 continued to plant trees as part of the Queen's jubilee celebrations.
During the session the children found a crisp packet in the under growth. When we inspected the packet closer we discovered that this crisp packet was a staggering 19 years old! It looked in very good condition, with very little damage. Some very interesting discussions were had and It made us all think about the impact plastics are having on our planet. We shall be looking more into what we can do in the future to limit our plastic waste around school.
Reception class had a visitor, Rebecca the elf. We enjoyed reading the Oi Frog book, identifying rhyming words and after lunchtime Rebecca the elf set the children a treasure hunt. Everyone had to co-operate to find the pictures that lead us to the treasure. We all had a lovely day.
Outdoor learning has been a lot quieter than usual because the children took part in the big school birdwatch. We had a wonderful time watching the birds and learning the different bird songs.
Year 5 have been investigating factors and products as part of their work on multiplication and division.
Children in Nursery have been busy this week learning about Number. They have enjoyed various activities including counting objects, drawing around number stencils, comparing quantities of number and copying numbers on the interactive board. Well done children!
This week Year 2 have been using our lovely new counting frames called Rekenreks to help them become masters of numbers!
We have had a chilly few days but that hasn't stopped the outdoor fun.
Reception class have been busy building shelters for the wildlife using twigs and dried leaves collected from around school, Year 1 went down to the wooded area where it was a little warmer and sheltered, and year 2 took a close up look at the ice crystals and patterns left after a frosty night.
The Queen's Green Canopy is a tree planting initiative created to Mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this year.
The children in Year 5 have been taking part in the jubilee celebration by planting a variety of trees and hedgerow shrubs in the school grounds, during outdoor learning. These will also, in time, become valuable to the wildlife that will visit the school in the future.
Year 4 have been working on their sketching skills to produce line drawings of animals. They showed great concentration to produce some fantastic sketches.
