Curious Readers
This week Y2 have been busy exploring our new reading area.
When children are healthy, happy and safe, curiosity is ignited and learning is optimised. In this section, you will find out what children in school and nursery have been learning this week.
This week Y2 have been busy exploring our new reading area.
This week Year 1 have been busy looking around to see what improvements could be made to make our school even better! They came up with things like more books and chairs in the library, better technology in the hall and more equipment for the outdoor areas. Well done Year 1!
This week in Year 3 we have stared our new topic Emperors and Empires. Today we were studying pictures of Roman artefacts and trying to guess what their purpose was. We all thought of an interesting question we would like to ask about each artefact.
Year Two have been working on their portraiture skills this week. We decided to use watercolour paint to recreate a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The children looked closely at all the details in the picture and worked hard to make their paintings as accurate as possible.
In Nursery this week, we have been learning about planting and growing. Children have enjoyed planting seeds and young plants and have taken great care to ensure they have the best start. We have thought about the different parts of a plant, naming the seed, root, stem, leaf, bud and flower. We hope to grow some beautiful flowers and vegetables – watch this space!
The Reception class have started their topic this week called 'Animal safari'. We had great fun creating a jungle area in the classroom.
Reading Detectives!
Year 3 have been learning about different types of volcanic eruption. We made our own effusive eruption using soap, bicarb and vinegar. It was very exciting!
The Reception class had great fun at forest school this week. Some children worked together to make dens and others made potions for a den party.
Year 3 have been learning about what empathy means. We learnt that empathy means understanding how someone else might be feeling, like you are walking in their shoes. We decided to represent empathy by photographing and sketching our shoes. Our finished art piece will be in the hall next week!
This week, Year 1 had the challenge of creating a pet shelter in our Outdoor Learning area. The Den needed to be safe, dry and easy to access. We had to carefully plan our shelters in groups and create them by working as a team.
This week Year 2 have been finding out whether bigger seeds will germinate more quickly. We have got wait and see what happens!
