Year 2 News
This week we have been enjoying finding out about explorers in Y2. We found out why Christopher Columbus is significant and will be comparing him to Neil Armstrong.

This week we have been enjoying finding out about explorers in Y2. We found out why Christopher Columbus is significant and will be comparing him to Neil Armstrong.
Year 5 are learning about Earth and Space. We worked in groups to present our understanding of how night and day is affected by the Earth's rotation on its axis every 24 hours.
This week Year 3 and 4 started their 'Stepping Out' training. They learnt all about how to keep safe as a pedestrian and how to cross the road using 'Stop, Look, Listen and Think'. They are looking forward too showing how much they learnt next week in part 2 of the training.
Year 2 have done some fantastic science this week investigating woodlice and their habitats. We found out most woodlice like to hide in egg boxes!
The Reception class have been thinking about fireworks today and have created some fantastic pictures to show different kinds of fireworks. We worked together to create one large class picture and then created our own using collage materials.
In Year 4 we have been learning about Norse Mythology. Today we used a drama 'Freeze framing' activity to guess which part of the story the groups were re-enacting! If your child is in year 4 child why not ask them about the story of Thor and Jormungand!
Year 4 enjoyed a lovely visit to Experience Church at Broseley All Saints. We learnt about the important symbols we see in church and what they mean. We were also able to share the work we had been completing in class about the Holy Trinity.
Well done to all the children who took part in our Harvest Assemblies this week! We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who gave food supplies for our collection. These will be donated to our local food bank.
This week the children in Y2 have been exploring Autumn through art and poetry. We have learned a poem off by heart to share in our Harvest assembly and painted some colourful autumn leaves using the colour wheel to help us make exciting colour choices.
During our 'Let's explore' topic, the Reception class have been exploring how to make bricks. We watched a short film about brick making and had a go at making our own. We made some out of clay, some out of mud and some out of magic sand. The children had great fun creating the different mixtures. We later tested the bricks and found that the clay bricks were the strongest.
Year 3 had a brilliant day exploring what it would have been like to live in the Stone Age. Our 'Outback to Basics' workshop taught us all about how Stone Age people lived, hunted, built homes, made tools and entertained themselves. We even made our own arrowheads and oil lamps using the same techniques as Stone Age people would have!
Y5 had great fun in their drama workshop to learn more about the Shang Dynasty in ancient China. We learnt about social hierarchies, famous leaders and different jobs all through role play, improvisation and freeze frame.
